Let’s talk about THAT She-Hulk episode
Last week, the eighth episode of She-Hulk: Attorney at Law was released on Disney+ and finally introduced one of Marvel’s iconic superheroes into the Marvel Cinematic Universe: Daredevil. He was first introduced in the Netflix show Daredevil that was made in conjunction with Marvel Studios that aired from 2015–2018. Daredevil is the alter ego of Matt Murdock, a blind lawyer from Hell’s Kitchen, who appeared briefly in Spider-Man: No Way Home as Peter Parker’s legal counsel.
Marvel teased Daredevil’s appearance in She-Hulk when the initial trailers came out for the show, but their hints reached an all time high last Wednesday night. All the small scenes that had been released show the Devil of Hell’s Kitchen donning a new gold and red suit, an homage to Daredevil’s original costume in the comics. The striking new suit is not only impressive, but also intriguing with She-Hulk herself calling it “very daring to use ketchup and mustard as a color scheme.”
But Daredevil’s debut in last week’s episode was met with mostly glowing reviews about not only his new snazzy outfit, but also how Marvel handled his characterization and action scenes.
When Matt Murdock first showed up in last week’s episode, he cracked a joke and flashed a smile as an attempt to charm the judge and courtroom over his tardiness. She-Hulk shows a much more developed, happier, and healed version of Matt compared to the more conflicted and darker version of him from the Netflix show. Matt’s dialogue and conversations with Jen feel effortless and genuine, helping him develop a connection amd friendship with her as well.
The fight scenes in this episode were also another topic of conversation amongst viewers on Twitter. The choreography and action sequences felt like they came straight out of the Netflix show and really showcased Daredevil’s fighting prowess. The episode’s hallway fight scene and dramatic lighting are an iconic feature famously seen in every season of Netflix’s Daredevil, and the one in She-Hulk certainly does this justice.
Daredevil is expected to next appear in the season finale of She-Hulk, the Marvel show Echo, and his own show for Disney+, Daredevil: Born Again. Filming for Daredevil: Born Again is slated to begin in February 2023 in New York. The first eight episodes of She-Hulk and all three seasons of Netflix and Marvel’s Daredevil are available to view on Disney+.
